The NxtGenNow Scholarship exists to financially empower eligible Northpoint College students to participate in
a world-class ministry preparation experience that is both academic and practical.
Eligible applicants will demonstrate financial need as well as academic and ministry promise.
They will also express a desire to participate in a ministry internship
through Grand Rapids First or Northpoint.

Process For Awarding Scholarship - Fall 2023 and Spring 2024

Criteria:
I. A demonstrated vibrant faith in Jesus Christ.
To be verified by:
• Pastoral reference from Northpoint application process
• Personal essay from the NxtGenNow Scholarship application form
• Interview with appropriate representatives from Northpoint and Grand Rapids First
• Regular attendance and involvement at Grand Rapids First or the student's home church

II. A demonstrated passion and potential for participation in the ongoing work of Jesus.
To be verified by:
• Pastoral reference
• Personal essay articulating your call and ministry involvement
• Interview with appropriate representatives from Northpoint and Grand Rapids First

III. A demonstrated ability to be academically successful.
To be verified by:
• High School GPA of preferably 2.75 or higher
• ACT or SAT scores, preferably at the 75th percentile [21/1250] or higher
• Educator reference from Northpoint|GR application process
• Phone interview with the appropriate representative(s) from Northpoint
• Preferred maintenance of a 2.75 GPA at Northpoint
• Full-time student status is preferred at Northpoint

IV. Availability to participate in the appropriate Grand Rapids First or Northpoint College ministry internship
is required one day per week as decided by the Internship Program for the entirety of the awarded academic year
(Fall and Spring semesters).
V. A demonstrated financial need and a commitment to financial responsibility.
To be verified by:
• Review of completed FAFSA packet [FAFSA must be completed before you apply for the scholarship]
• Confirmed through the interview process and references
• Avoidance of unnecessary loans to be verified by the Financial Aid Office

Criteria for Scholarship Renewal:
For students to maintain their scholarship throughout the four years at Northpoint College, students must reapply each year and meet the following renewal criteria. All applications must be submitted before the May 29, 2023, deadline to be reviewed and decided on by the Scholarship Committee.

• Preferred maintenance of 2.75 GPA
• Recommendations from professors
• Attendance and disciplinary check
• Follow up with internship supervisor
• Preference will be given to full-time students (12 credit hours)
• Students with a need for financial aid who display fiscal responsibility and a demonstrated commitment to graduate with little-to-no debt to be verified by Financial Aid Office
• Limit of two years of participation in an Internship Department

Important Notes:
I. Scholarship recipients will be required to pay $1,000 out-of-pocket towards tuition for the Academic Year ($500/semester). The total amount of the scholarship will be applied proportionately against your Fall and Spring semester tuition. Scholarship funds are applied to tuition costs only (does not apply towards fees). Payment of the $500 + fees will follow Northpoint’s payment schedule found in the Student Handbook.

II. The distribution of the approved scholarship funds for the Spring semester is already approved. However, please be aware that disbursal will be pending satisfactory academic involvement during the fall semester and in the selected internship program.

III. Withdrawal from Northpoint or any failed classes will result in a required reimbursement to the NxtGenNow Scholarship Fund of the tuition costs for the affected courses before commencement of the following semester. Reimbursement is required regardless of the student's enrollment status at Northpoint.

IV. Recipients are only permitted two years of participation in each Internship Department, unless provided special consideration given by the Intern Supervisor and Scholarship Committee. If granted the Scholarship all four years, the recipient must intern for at least two Internship Departments, unless granted otherwise. Special consideration must be requested by a signed letter from Applicant and Intern Supervisor along with their initial application.
